Eraser Technique
This is the eraser technique. To improve magazine from my last one i have decided to use the eraser on paint.net. Paint.net is a site where you import photos and you can use effects and styles to change the photos appearence. This is my original photo. The photo i used on my Front cover.
This is after i had used the eraser technique on my photo. As you can see the eraser effect on paint.net removes the background around your picture and puts its focus on the image itself. What i have also done is use something called feather, this is an effect where you take the outter line of the photo and make it less pixelated. This helps the image set in and it also looks much better, the feather technique removes all the sharpe edges of the photo to make them much more smooth. I decided to use this technique and put it with my Masthead.
Here is the image positioned infront of my Masthead. I have done this because you see in most magazines the main image is infront of the masthead but also with no background for example As you can see here the image of the band or the person in covering the Masthead. They do this because the magazine brand (Kerrang) are not affraid to do this, they no the public no the magazine title/brand so much that they dont need a mass amount of space for the Masthead so they can cover it with the main image.

Software , Editing and Configuration
I used word to construct my magazine. I chose word becuase it has a lot of useful resources and i found it very easy to use. It had a lot of editing techniques also shapes and text boxes i was able to use for my magazine.
Front Cover
On my front cover layout i had a few ideas from successful magazines (Q) to base the layout. For my Masthead i had used a site called 101fonts.com. It was very useful for me. Because the magazine was called 'the lyric' i decided to use the basis of that to determine to design of my masthead. I had decided to make my title look like it was written as a lyric 'handwritten'. It made it look unique and fitted to style of the magazine. To add the masthead on to the front cover i had to print screen the page and crop the image in paint. I then saved that image and added it onto my front cover.
I included four pictures to my front cover. The main dominant picture and 3 separate photos to go as my article basis. I used the three other photos on the side on my front cover to emphasize and show the 'FREE POSTERS' pug in the corner. These were made to look like the three free posters inside the magazine. Word made me use text boxes to put the pictures in, i found this quiet challenging due to the fact i had a lot of text boxes on the page already and also in was hard to fit the picture into the box the right size and shape.
For the colour of the front cover i had used fill to do the gray background. I didn't use a colour in my masthead becuase i wanted it to look original and keep to my idea of looking it like a lyric its self. i was challenging the codes and conventions of other magazines where they usually use a colour font on their magazine masthead.
For the text and the text boxes i used the fill editing technique on word and used a main colour which was gold and stuck through with that colour all through the magazine. I also used tilt on some of my writing on the front cover where your able to tilt the writing and put it on the side of the page.
I found word very useful for my magazine front cover and used some useful editing techniques and styles to make my magazine front cover to look authentic and original.
Contents
For my contents have had drafted out my ideas, i had planned to make it like my front cover, same colour styles and patterns. I used the word editor to edit my photos to make them look as they are. Faded out and made to fit the page. I also used a boarder theme, where you can make the boarder of the photo match the same as the writing, as in colour and style. I had used ideas from Q magazine for my contents page becuase i found it challenging to come up with the style and colour theme. When i saw most magazines keep to the same colour scheme and style i decided to do the same with mine. I used my Masthead in the contents becuase i also noticed in Q that they use their Masthead on the front page and also the contents as well. So by keeping to the codes and conventions i decided to do this and keep to the look with my front cover.
DPS
I had many ideas for my double page spread and conducted a few drafts. I wanted to make my double page spread different to my front cover and contents. Again i used word like i did for my front cover and contents but i also used paint.net. Paint.net helped me edit my main image and do a lot of pretty cool stuff with it. It let me use effects and different styles to my main picture. As you can by the picture on my DPS, i pix-elated the image and faded it out, to give it a unique look. Also it fitted well with my background, the background i deigned my self on paint.net again. This took me quite a while due to the fact i wanted the background to fit in well with my picture. It did. The font i used for the writing i found on a site called 101fonts.com. This site had many fonts i could use, the site was the same on i had used for my Masthead. Again i tried to use a unique look and try and keep it with the style of my Masthead. Hand written style. After a long time of looking i found one and print screen the writing and transferred it onto paint. From there i cropped the writing and put it on my DPS. I did the same with more writing because i thought it look very good with my design and style of the DPS. The text followed. I used 11 size font on word and kept the font style the same as my front page and contents. For the right side of the page i kept to a white background because it looked and went well with the writing and the left side of my BPS page.

The persons position, how the image was took and style
The persons position, how the image was took and style
For most photos i went to jasons gigs and live sets to take pictures of him. As you can see in this photo i positioned my self face on to him and took as he is playing to the camera. I decided to use a long shot to get the shot of the whole body to see his figure and playing style. Jason usually wears quiet stylish things so when he goes out the play it is a bonus for me when im trying to make a moden music magazine.
As you can see by this one i went to the recording studio with jason and took pictures while he was in the recording booth. I decided to take this one side on see the side of jason as he was playing, showing him perform. This shot is a medium close up, showing the facial expressions and the flare he is giving off to you and the audience.
With this photo i asked jason to join me up the park so i can take some action shots of him with my new camera. This photo shows a medium shot on him sitting and playing the guitar. I decided to take this shot because it succesfully shows the type of style jason likes to play. It the free kind of naturalistic of jasons playing style. I thought to go outside was a good idea for my magazine as my style of the magazine is quite classy and original. In a way im trying to challenge the codes and conventions and make my magazine unique.

Q magazine
- Q magazine is an alternative music magazine.
- It is published monthly in the UK.
- It's publishing company is Bauer Consumer Media (Emap).
- Q also has it's own music channel called Q TV.
- It's cover price is £3.90.
- It's single copy subcription figures are 22,798. (19,097 being in the UK and republic of Ireland) 01-Jul-2008 to 31-Dec-2008
- The target audience for Q magazine are the older generation such as people in their 30's and 40's who are looking for a different mode of address, more sophisticated and just want to know more about the music instead of what colour pants so and so is wearing (which would be mentioned in Kerrang). Although the founders state that they want to appeal to all the older generation, it seems that Q magazine doesn't appeal to many woman of that age.
This is an example on a front cover of a Q magazine. As we can see it is very stereotypical for Q to do it in the way they have. The Masthead covering the main image and many pugs and puffs. For example the 'free inside' is a puff, their to entice to audience and draw them in. The pug 'the best British albums is also their to do the same thing. Make the costumer by the product. The colour is very effective in this front cover. The big and bright Madonna name covering the width of the page. The fact that its red and stands out from the rest of the dark page makes it more effective, its very eye catching, its what you first see when you look at the page. You could say the only really un-stereotypical thing Q have done on the front cover is the main image. Even though that its a medium shot like most and the person is looking at the camera the fact that the person is blocking most of her body is strange. Its challenging the stereotypical view and peoples perceptions on Q magazine. Making it look different and new and the fact that she's blocking most of her body could indicate that they are trying to pay more attention on the persons face and not the rest of her body. The sleek and sexy look she gives to the camera makes the audience want to look like her, dress like her, act like her. perceptions the audience have on the magazine.
